التقى الاستاذ مهند العتابي محافظ المثنى في ديوان المحافظة , صباح الاحد 30 حزيران يونيو 2024 , وفدا يمثل وكلات الأمم المتحدة حيث مثل الوفد منظمة الهجرة الدولية IOM , اليونيسيف , منظمة الأغذية و الزراعة للأمم المتحدة (الفاو), برنامج الأمم المتحدة للمستوطنات البشرية ( الهابيتات ), UNDP , منظمة الأغذية العالمية (WFP) , رافق الوفد ممثلين عن مكتب وزيرة الهجرة والمهجرين ومكتب وزيرالبيئة ,وعدد من قائممقامية الاقضية و مدراء الدوائر الحكومية ورؤساء وممثلي منظمات المجتمع المدني في المحافظة كما حضر اللقاء عدد من مختاري و فلاحي المناطق المتاثرة بالنزوح الناجم عن اثار المناخ .
تم إدارة الاجتماع من قبل الأستاذ مؤيد الياسري النائب الأول لمحافظ المثنى وبحضور الأستاذ منديل عبدالحسن سكر مدير مكتب المنظمات غير الحكومية.
تمت مناقشة اهم المشاكل التي تعاني منها محافظة المثنى ولاسيما مشكلة الجفاف التي اثرت بشكل رئيسي على هجرة عدد من السكان في مناطق عديدة من المحافظة , كذلك مدى تأثر الهياكل المحلية بالنزوح الناجم عن المناخ و التحديات التي أحدثها النزوح إضافة الى الفجوات في الموارد التي تعيق الاستجابة الفعالة للنزوح .
طرح الحضور عدد من الخطوات الحاسمة للدعم والتدخل من قبل الأمم المتحدة التي من شأنها التخفيف بشكل فعال من اثار النزوح والتكيف مع تأثيرات المناخ .
On Sunday morning, June 30, 2024, Muhannad Al-Attabi, Governor of Muthanna, met in the governorate office with a delegation representing United Nations agencies. The delegation included the International Organization for Migration (IOM), UNICEF, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat), UNDP, and the World Food Organization (WFP). The delegation was accompanied by representatives from the Office of the Minister of Migration and Displacement, the Office of the Minister of Environment, a number of district mayors, directors of government departments, and heads and representatives of civil society organizations in the governorate. The meeting was also attended by a number of mukhtars and farmers from areas affected by displacement resulting from climate change.
The meeting was moderated by Mr. Muayad Al-Yasiri, First Deputy Governor of Muthanna, and attended by Mr. Mandeel Abdul-Hassan Sakr, Director of the NGO Office. The most important problems facing Muthanna Governorate were discussed, especially the drought problem, which has had a major impact on the migration of a number of people in many areas of the governorate, as well as the extent to which local structures are affected by climate-induced displacement and the challenges caused by displacement, in addition to the gaps in resources that hinder an effective response to displacement. The attendees put forward a number of critical steps for support and intervention by the United Nations that would effectively mitigate the effects of displacement and adapt to climate impacts.
